Add Neobrutalism MCP as a Claude Desktop custom connector — remote URL, tools menu, token, and Pro access.
Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name it Neobrutalism and paste your registry URL (`https://neobrutalism.com/api/mcp?token=YOUR_TOKEN`). Remote connectors don’t need a local config file or app restart. In a new chat, open the tools menu and enable the connector.
Same Neobrutalism server and token, different client: Claude Desktop uses the Connectors UI (remote URL); Claude Code uses `claude mcp add` in the terminal. You can run both against the same Dashboard → Account token.
Start a new chat, ensure the connector is toggled on in the tools menu, then ask: “using the neobrutalism connector, what’s in the registry?” Claude should call get_registry_stats. If tools never appear, re-add the connector with a fresh URL from your dashboard.
Enable the connector for the current chat (tools menu → connector on). Error state usually means 401 (bad token) or 403 (not Pro). Re-add with a fresh URL after fixing access. Local stdio servers in claude_desktop_config.json are a different path — this product page uses the remote custom connector URL.
Custom remote connectors are available on Claude’s Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans (per Anthropic). Separately, Neobrutalism Pro is required for our registry tools to return Pro block source and install commands. Claude’s plan unlocks the host UI; our Pro unlocks the catalog behind the URL.
Yes for full tool access. No token → 401; token without Pro → 403. Free Neobrutalism accounts still get a token; it unlocks after you upgrade.
Dashboard → Account for the token; build `https://neobrutalism.com/api/mcp?token=…` or copy the pre-filled value from your dashboard MCP tab.
The token is personal, revocable, and scoped to registry reads. It lives in your Claude account connector settings (brokered remotely), not in a project repo — still rotate it if you suspect a leak.
Team/Org Neobrutalism Pro seats each have their own token. Every teammate adds their own custom connector — don’t share one URL.
In any chat with the connector enabled: search the catalog, open real component/Pro block source, open previews, and return token-ready install commands for you to run in a project terminal.
The MCP tools return source and `shadcn add` commands; you (or a coding agent with filesystem access) run the install in the project. Desktop chat is ideal for discovery and copy-paste installs.
Local Desktop MCP (claude_desktop_config.json stdio) runs processes on your machine. Free shadcn MCP only sees free public components. Neobrutalism remote MCP is hosted Pro access to blocks, source, previews, and install URLs.
Ask for the backend you use (default Base UI). Source is flattened before return.
Remote custom connectors are managed on your Claude account and may be available across Desktop, web, and Cowork depending on Anthropic’s plan and product surface. The Neobrutalism URL and Pro rules stay the same wherever the connector is enabled.
